the Sketch Book - size 7 x 5.5 inches. Can almost read his name written in pencil on the cover. Most of the images dated 1932, 1933, etc..Safe to say he was a 22 y/o student at this time. It contains a bit of everything. Portraits, religious images, gothic, A stain glass image, a ship, personal notes. etc...

The binding is old and worn, The Book has been taped a few times by Mr Crite.

He was known for always carrying a sketchbook with him..

the pages are bit aged and yellowed.

Amazing that it hasn't been discarded or destoryed over the past 82 years.

Allan Rohan Crite - 2 Dilworth St., Boston Mass. (written in pencil on the first page of the book along with other names, addresses, notes etc.)

There is a wide Variety of different drawing samples. Some animated, original, some realistic possibly of models or people he knew.

The image on left is a water color - Wm DeMarco.....

Interesting writing about life in Russia, I read that he had an art teacher from Russia at school, that he was very influenced by and may have done a little research on life in Russia.....not very pleasant.

An image of a fellow student -open page

Signed May 1932 - "Secit"  ? do not know what it means or wheter is a name of person ....

Signed in lower right - Not sure exactly what media was used to create this colorful image, seems to have heavy black back and was glue on to page...

He went on to work at shipyard.

I am baffled at the different drawing style used in these gothic images compared to portrait style drawing. I think read that he said he copied these, but i am not sure..done in ink of small brush.

titled - "Well !! So much for that! (by Mr. Crite)

One of my favorites in the book. In this image you can see how he first made a sketch underneath this image first, then added pen ink and color..

There are two colored images like this that he titled

"A ruined Sanctuary" - I myself do not recognize this image., however he put much effort in this image so i'm assuming it must have been important to him.
